Cures
There were no cures for the Black Death although people tried hard as they could to find one. They believed that the plague was caused by bad odours so doctors gave patients flower or herbs to sniff, thinking it would make them better. Patients were also encouraged to burn pine and lemon leaves and to carry pouches filled with herbs or camphor.

The Black Death started in Sicily in 1347, and within 3 years had killed one quarter of Europe's population, around 25 million people. After this it spread to Asia and Africa, killing even more millions of people.
